AAPS Canceling International & Domestic Travel

  • The global and domestic impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) is the basis for the decision by the Ann Arbor Public Schools to cancel all school-based, international and domestic overnight trips scheduled for students, staff, and parents, through 6/30/2020.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and parents is our top priority. We know that this decision is disappointing to those who have been looking forward to the travel experience, yet it is a necessary step to assure health and safety. We also want to ensure that AAPS families can engage with their school's specific travel company vendor to explore refund options covered by trip insurance before the deadline for refunds is reached by the majority of travel companies that partner with our schools.

We always encourage travelers to purchase insurance. At this time, we suggest that you contact the travel organization to review your refund options. We continue to communicate with travel organizations requesting that they recognize the worldwide spread of the coronavirus, the concerns related to traveling domestically and abroad, and the possibility of travelers having to be quarantined (both government-required and self-quarantine) following travel within and out of the country. And, we are requesting that the organizations work with our students, staff, and parents to provide refunds, vouchers, and combinations of both even if providing such falls outside of insurance policies or their organization’s policies.

As we continue to navigate the impact of coronavirus on school closures and event cancellations, we will update our school community. In the coming days, please look for a communication from your child's school for information about the specific overnight student travel opportunities that were planned.
